Pirates topple Cypress, Golden West to remain unbeaten

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College beach volleyball team continues to roll past the competition, topping Cypress College (4-1) and Golden West College (5-0) on Friday at the Newland Courts.

The two wins for the Pirates push them to a perfect 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the Orange Empire Conference.

Against the Chargers (6-3, 3-2), Coast picked up straight-set wins from the teams of Rachel Blair/Brisa Zapata-Reaves (21-17, 21-7), Alanna Shields/Sophia Sola (21-5, 21-3), Summer Hanks/Sara Enright (21-9, 21-10) and Emily Payne and Izzy Duchaine (21-12, 21-13).

It was more of the same for the Pirates against the Rustlers (4-9, 1-4) as they went a perfect 5-0 in their matchups with wins coming from Blair/Zapeda-Reaves (21-9, 21-15), Shields/Sola (21-10, 21-9), Hanks/Enright (21-11, 21-14), Payne/Duchaine (forfeit) and Paige Cutwright/Lexy Mendoza (21-9, 21-9). 

Coast will have another double-header of volleyball in store on Friday as they host Santa Ana and Cypress in a three-way matchup, beginning at 10 a.m. back at the Newland Courts.
