Pirates roll past Rustlers, Dons in OEC double-dip

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College beach volleyball team enjoyed a beautiful day on the beach with a pair of beautiful wins on Friday, topping rivals Golden West (5-0) and Santa Ana (5-0) at the Newland Beach Volleyball Courts.

With the two wins, the Pirates remain unbeaten in the Orange Empire Conference (7-0), while improving their overall record to 12-2.

It was smooth sailing for the Pirates over the Dons as they swept in 4-of-5 matches, including the duos of Corinne Williams/Brisa Zapata-Reaves (21-14, 21-6), Jesse Coralle/Lexy Mendoza (21-9, 21-12), Kingsley Mason/Leah Thibault (21-15, 21-8) and Izzy Duchaine/Theresia Amtmann (21-4, 21-5). At No 3, the duo of Natalia Brandlin and Rose Whitter were pushed a bit, but still prevailed with a 21-11, 8-21, 20-18 win over the Dons.

It was ALL sweeps for the Pirates in their next match against the Rustlers, led by Williams/Zepata-Reaves (21-14, 21-13), Coralle/Mendoza (21-7, 21-8), Paige Cutwright/Alexandra Selivanov (21-8, 21-5), Mason/Thibault (21-7, 21-6) and Duchaine/Amtmann (21-8, 21-8). 

The two wins keep the Pirates ahead of rival Irvine Valley (6-1) by one loss in the OEC standings and two losses ahead of third-place Cypress (4-2).

OCC will host Fullerton College at the Newland Courts on Friday, beginning at 10 a.m.
