Pirate pair wins OEC title; three others qualify for SoCal Regionals

IRVINE -- Brisa Zepata-Reaves and Corinne Williams captured the Orange Empire Conference beach volleyball pairs title and three other pairs earned spots at the Southern California Regionals after their strong performances at last weekend's OEC Pairs Championships, hosted by Irvine Valley College.

Zepata -Reaves/Williams advanced all the way to the conference championship, where they faced the IVC pair of Chole Swanson/Barrett Nolan and the championship match was a battle down to the very end. The Pirate duo fell behind after dropping the opening set, 19-21, but bounced back in a big way with a 21-7 win to force a 15-point, winner-take-all, third set.

From there, Zepata-Reaves/Williams kept their strong play going and prevailed in the third set, 15-8 to win the OEC title.

In all, 11 teams will move on to the Southern California Regional championships, which will be held at El Camino College this coming Friday and Saturday.

Joining Zepata-Reaves and Williams are three more OCC beach volleyball pairs, including Lexy Mendoza/Jesse Coralle, Izzy Duchaine/Thersia Amtmann and Paige Cutwright/Alexandra Selivanov

Mendiza/Coralle finished fifth at the OEC Championships, while Duchaine/Amtmann placed 8th and Cutwright/Selivanov finished ninth.
