Pirates flex muscles in 14-6 win over Mounties

COSTA MESA -- A four-run deficit in the third inning must have felt like a walk in the park for the Orange Coast College baseball team, who calmly scored 13 straight runs in their next three frames and rolled past visiting Mt. San Antonio, 14-6, on Saturday at John Altobelli Park.

Two days after scoring nine runs in the ninth for a miraculous win over Long Beach, Coast (8-4) quickly erased the deficit and pulled away from the Mounties (8-3) thanks in large part to the big bats of Cary Arbolida, Emilio Morales and Jason Carrig, who each left the yard with home runs.

Arbolida finished with two hits, two runs and five RBI for the Pirates. His three-run shot in the bottom of the third put Coast even with Mt. SAC at 4-4. Carrig's blast -- a two-run shot to right-center -- put the Pirates up for good in the top of the fourth and Morales followed that up with a solo shot of his own to make it 6-4.

Tyler Weaver went 4-for-5 with two runs and four RBI, while Cameron Mahaffy and Alex Gomez took advantage four four walks between them to score four runs between them.

Chase Rousselo (3-0) came in relief of Mahaffy in the fourth inning and shut down the Mounties with 3 2/3 scoreless innings of work, allowing no hits, walking one and striking out three.

Coast will return to action on Tuesday at Southwestern College, beginning at 2 p.m. before returning to John Altobelli Park for a three-game series against Sacramento City, beginning on Thursday at 2 p.m.
