Pirates rout rival Rustlers, 108-70

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball team came out rolling and never let up as the Pirates rolled way past rival Golden West in a 108-70 Orange Empire Conference win on Friday night inside the Peterson Gym.

Logen Howard led the Pirates (11-7, 3-3 in the OEC) with 24 points, while Jydon Hall added 18 points to go along with six assists and five steals. In all, THIRTEEN different Pirates scored points, including nine points from Sam Hunter and Kui Ross, eight points from Kyndle Terrell-Jones and six points from Jaiden Greene, Isaiah Lee and Julian Daaboul.

Michael Ernest led GWC (2-15, 0-6) with 16 points. Soma Doherty added 13 points and Noel Camejo tossed in 10.

Coast clamped down on the Rustlers right from the opening whistle and jumped out to a 30-9 advantage. From there, it was all OCC the rest of the way. OCC's relentless pressure defense was the difference on Friday as the Pirates forced 38 GWC turnovers, giving Coast a 48-8 advantage in the points off turnovers stat category. The turnovers led to 38 fewer shots for the Rustlers (89-51) for the night.

The Pirates will be on the road this week, playing at Santa Ana on Wednesday (6 p.m.) and Santiago Canyon on Friday (6 p.m.) before returning to the Peterson Gym on Monday against Irvine Valley, beginning at 6 p.m. (TICKETS)
