Pirates top the OEC field at CMCC

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's golf overcame a steady wind and a top-level list of players to earn four wins at Monday's Orange Empire Conference matchup at Costa Mesa Country Club's Mesa Linda Course.

With a brisk breeze negating whatever advantages the players had against the short, but tricky Mesa Linda Course (par-70), the Pirates took advantage of the home knowledge and shot a team score of 356, a mere 6-over-par total for the entire scoring five.

Cuyamaca was close behind with a 9-over, 359, followed by Cypress (362), Saddleback (372) and El Camino (379).

OCC's Tiger Tahvildari continued his lights-out play, shooting a 6-under-par, 64 to lead all golfers for low round of the day. Sophomore Zach Iwashita fired a 1-under, 69, followed by Nathan Rhee (72), Keenan Boyle (75), Jordan Fahy (76) and Cris Rodriguez (77).

Others who managed par or better on Monday included Cypress College's Alex Mascaro (66) and Cuyamaca's Bret Leonhardt (70).

The Pirates will be the host once again as they bring in all schools from both divisions of the Orange Empire Conference for a neutral matchup on the Los Lagos Course at CMCC, beginning at 11 a.m.
