Solid week of golf for the Pirates in the OEC

COSTA MESA -- Back-to-back solid performances for the Orange Coast College men's golf team as they battled the rest of the Orange Empire Conference in two big matches this week.

On Monday, the Pirates headed up to the Navy Course in Cypress, where they finished first among the eight OEC teams playing in the event. Coast used five sub-80 scores to top the field with a 383, followed by Mt. San Antonio (388), Cypress (392), College of the Desert (394), Riverside (395), Cuyamaca (398), Victor Valley (403) and El Camino (438).

Pirate freshman Matt Ingram fired the low round of the tournament, shooting a 2-over-par, 74. It was a well-played round by all of the Pirates, including Troy Tarvin (76), Tyler Chapman (77), Victor Chaparro (77), Nate Rhee (79) and Dallas Ryan (83).

On Wednesday, it was a trip to the desert and Soboba Springs Golf Club, where the Pirates finished second in the OEC group with a 377, just three shots off of first-place COD, who carded a 344. Cypress took third with a 380, followed by Mt. SAC (386), Victor Valley (387), Cuyamaca (398), Mt. San Jacinto (403), Riverside (404) and El Camino (460).

Scores were even lower for a pair of Pirates -- Ingram and Tarvin -- who both shot under par on Wednesday. Ingram carded a 2-under-par, 70, with Tarvin just behind with a 1-under 71, followed by Rhee (78), Chapman (79), Chaparro (79) and Ryan (80).

Coast will be the host next week when the rest of the OEC comes to the Costa Mesa Country Club (Mesa Linda course) on Wednesday, beginning at 11 a.m.
