Pirates take top spot at Desert event, OEC title up for grabs
PALM DESERT -- It's going to be an exciting two rounds of golf on Wednesday for the Orange Empire Conference championship and the Orange Coast College men's golf team made sure on Monday that they would be a huge part of it after taking first place during Monday's OEC match at Bermuda Dunes Country Club.
The Pirates (60-12) are now just one loss behind Cypress (61-11) and four losses ahead of College of the Desert (56-16) after carding a Monday-best team score of 382. Mt. San Antonio finished second with a 387, followed by Cypress (388), Victor Valley (396), COD (397), Cuyamaca (397), Riverside (415), Mt. San Jacinto (416) and El Camino (419).
Top OCC golfer for the day was Matt Ingram, who posted one of the lowest rounds among all of the OEC golfers, carding a 1-over-par, 73. Other top OCC scores included Tyler Chapman (75), Victor Chaparro (76), Nate Rhee (79), Troy Tarvin (79) and Nic Borelli (86).
The final two rounds of the OEC portion of the season take place on Wednesday at Costa Mesa Country Club's Los Lagos, beginning at 7:30 a.m. for a 36-hole, two-round matchup with each round scoring separately, so there are still plenty of team wins left to be had.
