Pirates split OEC meet with Tigers, Dons

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's track team picked up a team win over Santa Ana, but fell to Riverside City College in Friday's quad-meet held at OCC.

Coast hammered the Dons, 151-1, but fell to the Tigers 90-64.

In the 1,500 meters, Coast picked up a 1-2-3-4 finish from Luis Morales (3:55.79), Lucio Ramirez (4:07.02), Cesar Galvez (4:07.07) and Conner Garcia (4:07.93).

Morales would shine once again later in the meet, winning the 3,000 with a time of 8:49.29, with Ramirez (8:53.94) close behind in second place.

Winston Lawson found just enough at the tape to edge out a victory in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.3, edging out RCC's Keithyon Moten (15.32).

Lawson picked up a second victory in the javelin throw, topping the field with a mark of 163 feet, 5 1/2 inches. Teammate Talon Sudbeck finished second with a 153-2 1/2.

In the high jump, Lawson made it a perfect 3-for-3, winning the event with a hight of 6-6 1/2.

Finally, in the triple jump, Lawson completed the "grand slam" by winning the triple jump with a distance of 22-8 3/4.

The Pirates will return to action on Friday when they host the 2014 Coast Classic, beginning at 10 a.m.
