Pirate women finish seventh in state at 3C2A Finals

SANTA ROSA -- The Orange Coast College women's swim/dive team wrapped up its 2025 season with a solid team performance at last weekend's 3C2A Swim/Dive State Championships at Santa Rosa Junior College with a 7th-place team finish.

Coast finished with 236 overall points in the 34-team statewide field. Mt. San Antonio College won the state title on the women's side with 440 points, followed by Santa Barbara (424), American River (305), Diablo Valley (270), Sierra (270), Santa Rosa (245), OCC (236), Long Beach (207), San Joaquin Delta (175) and San Diego Mesa (170).

The Pirates were led by several standout efforts, including Emma Steffens, who earned three top-five times throughout the three-day event. Steffens finished fifth in the state in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:14.4 as well as the 100 backstroke (1:00.72). 

Steffens also joined Kiley Kawai, Maya Abu-Salem and Rylie Fox in the 800 freestyle relay and earned a fifth-place time of 8:06.95 against the best of the best in the state.

OCC diver Madeline Kwok also had herself a solid weekend of competition, earning a pair of fifth-place marks in her events. She took fifth in both the 1-meter dive competition with a score of 201.95 and fifth in the 3-meter event with a score of 181.40.

 

Other top-8 performances for the Pirates included OCC's 400 freestyle relay (Kawai, Steffens, Abu-Salem, Fox ... 6th, 3:41.85), Kawai in the 200 individual medley (6th, 2:15), Steffens in the 200 backstroke (7th, 2:14.11), OCC's 200 free relay (Steffens, Kawai, A.J. Remy, Fox), 1:40.17), OCC's 200 medley relay (Kawai, Caprie Troccoli, Abu-Salem, Fox ... 8th, 1:53.53) and Kawai in the 200 backstroke (8th, 2:14.82).
