Pirates bounce back with road sweep over Tigers

RIVERSIDE -- The Orange Coast College women's volleyball team bounced back from tough loss on Wednesday with a convincing three-set sweep over host Riverside City College on Friday night in an Orange Empire Conference matchup.

Paige Cutwright had 13 kills and four blocks to lead the Pirates past the host Tigers, 25-12, 25-17, 25-23, improving OCC's record to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in the OEC. Natalia Brandlin added 12 kills and seven total blocks, while Brisa Zapata-Reaves knocked down 10 kills to go along with 11 digs.

Ellie Winter had a team-best 14 digs to go along with 13 assists, while Grace Holmgren paced the Pirate offense with 23 assists.

Coast dominated the middle against the Tigers (3-7, 0-3) with 22 total blocks (two solo, 20 assist), while RCC mustered up only four block assists throughout the entire match. Jessica Lepe and Maggie Aburto each had seven kills for the Tigers, while Audrey Elias dished out 20 assists.

OCC will return to action on Wednesday at home against Long Beach City College, beginning at 5 p.m.
