Pirates notch 12th straight win by topping Chargers

CYPRESS -- It was another dominating performance from the Orange Coast College women's water polo team as the Pirates made it 12 straight wins with a 13-5 Orange Empire Conference win over Cypress College.

Eight different Pirates (14-1, 3-0 in the OEC) found the back of the net on Thursday, including Rachel Sherman, who led the way with three goals and three assists. Leslie Casas, Delaney Lewellyn and Kendall Chrisman each added two goals for OCC, while Journey Werner, Faith Cuevas, Destiny Hernandez and Kayla Yamamoto each scored once.

In goal, Annabelle Sherman continued her impressive season by allowing only five goals with seven saves. With the loss, Cypress drops to 9-7 overall, 2-2 in the OEC.

OCC will return to action on Wednesday in a pivotal matchup at Fullerton College against the first-place Hornets, beginning at 4 p.m. This is the second meeting of the year between the two powerhouse programs. On Sept. 11, the Hornets (17-3, 3-0) handed the Pirates their only setback of the season with a 13-10 defeat at the OCC Tournament (in a nonconference matchup).
