Pirates continue to roll with 5-0 win over Mounties

WALNUT -- The Orange Coast College beach volleyball team won its fourth straight match to start the season with another 5-0 win on Friday against Mt. San Antonio College.

Not only is it the fourth straight win for the Pirates, but it's also their fourth straight 5-0 win as well.

Coast rolled to straight-set wins in four of its five matches, with strong play coming from the teams of Alanna Shields/Sophia Solo (21-11, 21-18), Summer Hanks/Brisa Zapata-Reaves (21-6, 21-4), Lexy Mendoza/Paige Cutwright (21-7, 21-10) and Rachel Street/Jadyn Pope (21-8. 21-14).

In the No. 3 match, the Pirate duo of Sara Enright and Rachel Blair took their first set, 21-18, before falling 23-25 in the second. But, the OCC pair regrouped and pulled out a 15-12 win in the third-and-final set.

Coast also picked up a 21-6, 21-7 exhibition win from the team of Emily Payne and Izzy Duchaine.

OCC will face its stiffest test on Friday against fellow Orange Empire Conference powerhouse, Irvine Valley, at the Newland Courts in Huntington Beach, beginning at 10 a.m.
