Pirates wrap up perfect regular season with 5-0 win over Hornets
HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The undefeated season continues for the Orange Coast College beach volleyball team as the Pirates wrapped up the regular season with a 5-0 Orange Empire Conference win over Fullerton College on Friday at the Newland Courts.
OCC heads into postseason play champions of the OEC Western division and unbeaten with a 14-0 overall record (10-0 in conference). In total matches played this year, the Pirates are a remarkable 67-3.
Those impressive stats were confirmed by Friday's solid performance against the Hornets (12-7, 6-4). Coast knocked out straight-set wins from the teams of Alanna Shields/Sophia Sola (21-10, 21-19), Rachel Blair/Brisa Zapata-Reaves (21-13, 21-5), Sara Enright/Summer Hanks (21-14, 21-9), Lexy Mendoza/Paige Cutwright (21-10, 21-18) and Emily Payne/Izzy Duchaine (21-6, 21-5).
Coast will host the opening round of the CCCAA Team Regionals, which kicks off on Tuesday, May 3 at the Newland Courts, beginning at 10 a.m.
Before that, the Pirates will take part in the CCCAA Pairs Regionals on Wednesday at 12 p.m. and Friday at 10 a.m. at Irvine Valley College.
