Pirates end season with sweep over Lasers
COSTA MESA -- While it wasn't the season the 2025 Orange Coast College baseball team wanted to have, the final three games definitely put a smile on the Pirates' faces as they wrapped up a three-game sweep over Irvine Valley with a come-from-behind 8-7 win over the Lasers on Friday at John Altobelli Ballpark.
Trailing 3-1 in the third, 6-3 in the seventh and 7-6 in the ninth, the Pirates pushed across two runs in their final at-bat to cap of the season in spectacular fashion.
Andrew Charbagian went 3-for-5 with two home runs, three runs scored and five RBI for the Pirates, while Aiden Dillehay added two hits and two RBI, including the game-winning knock in the bottom of the ninth.
After falling behind 6-3 in the seventh, hits by Flynn Barnes and Lou Fujiwara set up Chorbagian's second big fly of the game that banged off of the top of the left-field foul pole, tying the game at 6.
IVC scored a run in the top of the eighth to regain its lead at 7-6, which set up the ninth-inning fireworks for the Pirates.
Flinn led things off with a single to left and pinch-runner Connor Chapa moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt by Fujiwara. Chorbagian came through with his third hit of the afternoon, a sharp single through the right side that brought home Chapa with the tying run. Devin Rogers stepped up and lined a single to right-center, moving Chorbagian to third with the winning run just 90 feet away.
Zach Boynton was intentionally walked to load the bases and Dillehay stepped up and lined a long single over the head of the IVC outfield, bringing home Chorbagian with the winning run, the second straight walkoff game-winner for the Pirates at home in this three-game series with the Lasers.
The Pirates used eight different pitchers on Friday to get as many guys some season-ending action as possible and while the staff did allow 14 hits, they did not walk a batter and combined for 10 strikeouts.
