Santa Ana uses second-half push to top Pirates, 4-1

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's soccer team put some fear into visiting Santa Ana College before a strong second half by the Dons resulted in a 4-1 loss by the Pirates on Tuesday at the OCC Soccer Complex.

On a breezy day at OCC, the host Pirates (5-12-0, 2-7-0 in the Orange Empire Conference) used the favorable wind in the first half and grabbed a 1-0 lead when Edison Ramirez took a header from Jared Valazquez, fought off a defender and slipped a shot past the SAC goalkeeper into the back of the net in the 43rd minute of play.

But the Dons (8-5-5, 4-3-2) took the wind-aided side of the field and turned on the jets, scoring four straight times over the first 25 minutes of the second half. Jesse Mancilla had two goals for SAC, sandwiched around goals from Gilbert Gomez and Saul Vasquez.

OCC goalkeeper Collin Macha handled the SAC attack well and finished with nine saves. The SAC keeper duo of James Martinez and Jorge Cortes each had one save in 45 minutes of action.

Coast will return to action on Friday at Fullerton College (3 p.m.) before returning to the OCC Soccer Complex on Tuesday against Cypress (3 p.m.).
