Pirates earn six wins in one day at PCC Invitational

PASADENA -- Not a bad day's work for the Orange Coast College men's swim team as the Pirates picked up six wins on Friday in their lone performance at the 2022 Pasadena City College Invitational on Friday.

In spite of their part-time participation, the Pirates still earned the second-most points for the entire invitational with 625 points.

OCC's most impressive performance came in the 200-yard backstroke, where the Pirates earned the top FIVE times of the race, led by Andrew Leong's first-place time of 1 minute, 53.85 seconds, followed by Matthew Simpson (1:54.91), Tatsuki Inoue (1:55.91), Keita Inoue (2:00.51) and Alexis Satgni (2:03.33).

Leong wasn't done for the day. He also won the top spot in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:55.06 with Simpson (1:56.28) taking third and Tatsuki Inoue (1:5683) placing fourth.

Leong and Tatsuki Inoue joined Ethan Smith and Dane Howell in the 200 free relay and dominated the field with a winning time of 1:25.1. OCC also took first in the 800 free relay with a 17-second win over the field with a time of 6:59.3.

Smith also earned first-place times in the 100 butterfly (49.21) as well as the 50 free (20.88).

For the Pirate divers, Coast will compete on Friday and Saturday at the SoCal Dive Championships, hosted by El Camino College, at 12 p.m. As for the rest of the Pirates, they will return to the water April 21-23 for the Orange Empire Conference Championships, hosted by Riverside City College.
