Pirates capture men's top spot at Saddleback Meet

MISSION VIEJO -- The Orange Coast College men's track and field team took care of business on Friday and took the top spot as a team in a six-school invitational hosted by Saddleback College.

The Pirates topped the field with a team score of 184, followed by El Camino (111.83), Saddleback (100.66), Southwestern (88), Cuyamaca (55) and Bakersfield (41.50).

Coast posted first in seven individual and team events, including a 1-3-4 finish in the 400, where Ryan Rivituso (49.11) topped the field ahead of teammates Nicolas Felix (49.64) and Felix Fontaeus (49.65), who each cracked the top-five.

That trio, along with teammate Jeffery Hass, cruised to victory in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:21.98, a full five seconds ahead of the remaining teams.

Kade Franco made the most of his 3,000-meter race with a winning time of 9:14.81.

Javelin standout Joshua Mejorado threw 37-feet past the competition with a winning mark of 153-feet, 8 3/4-inches with teammate Jonah Slack (116-4) taking second for the Pirates.

Pole vaulter Tyler Young continued his fine season with a winning jump of 14-2 3/4, while in the discus, it was fellow Pirate, Adrian Moreno, with a winning throw of 123-9 1/2.

The closest of victories came in the triple jump, where Paul Domingue edged out Southwestern's Jakari Lowe by just over one inch and took the top spot with a jump of 45-5.

The Pirates will return to action on Saturday, April 9 at Mt. San Antonio College, beginning at 10 a.m.
