Women's crew goes 1-for-1 at Crew Classic

SAN DIEGO -- The Orange Coast College women's crew made the trek down to San Diego for the 2022 Crew Classic for just one race and the Pirates made the most of things, taking home the top prize in the Women's Novice 8 race on Saturday.

The Pirate squad of Kelly Dory, Becky Huang, Kendall Colbert, Emma Hallums, Lauren Koermer, Julia Dervieux, Sarah Chiaromonte, Alina Van Eeghen and coxswain Isabella Sendowsky took on four other boats from three other four-year universities and the Pirates blew the four-years out of the water with a winning time of 7 minutes, 23.66 seconds. It was an open-water victory, with the University of Calgary (7:37.49), UC Santa Barbara "A" (7:39.54), University of Colorado (7:41.58) and UCSB "B" (8:30.57) all a healthy distance behind the Pirates.

Coast will not be racing this weekend, but will return to Newport Harbor on Saturday, April 9 for the 2022 Berg Cup against UC Irvine, beginning at 7 a.m.
