Collins, Ashcraft punch tickets to State Finals!

CHINO -- The Orange Coast College women's golf twosome of Emma Ashcraft and Meah Collins will be representing the Pirates for the second year in a row at the state finals following their two-day performance at last weekend's Southern California Regional Women's Golf Championships at El Prado Golf Club.

On Sunday, under perfect golf-playing conditions, Collins was OCC's top golfer after carding a 7-over-par, 79 ... one shot ahead of her teammate, Ashcraft, who shot an 8-over, 80.

On Monday, under not-so-perfect-golf-playing conditions, the Pirate duo saved their best golf for last. Ashcraft trimmed eight shots off of Sunday's round and shot a 2-over-par, 74, while Collins was close behind with a 3-over, 75.

Both golfers shot a two-round total of 154, which tied for sixth among all golfers in the field.

As a team, the Pirates finished just two shots off of earning a return trip to state as the Pirates finished with a two-day team total of 691. In addition to Ashcraft and Collins lowering their scores on Day 2, so can be said for the rest of the Pirate squad, including Michelle Manzo (98-93-191), Lexi Jaeger (98-94-192) and Coco Fulton (112-101-213).

Both Collins and Ashcraft were on last year's OCC squad that reached the State Finals in 2021, where the Pirates finished fourth in the state. Individually speaking, the dynamic duo tied there as well, finished tied for 21st with scores of 166.

This year's CCCAA State Championship will return to Morro Bay Golf Club and begin play on Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m.
