Pirates open season with win over Cougars
COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's tennis team picked up win No. 1 in match No.1 on Tuesday with a 5-4 nonconference victory over visiting College of the Canyons on Tuesday at the OCC Tennis Complex.
Coast trailed 2-1 after doubles play and needed a strong rally in the singles competition to pull things out. Jade Moreno and Ruth Salter earned OCC's lone doubles win with an 8-4 triumph.
In singles play, Moreno made it 2-for-2 with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. Logan Koitka pulled out a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 1, while Madeleine Veltri cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2.
At No. 6 singles, Allison Dobrea came through for the Pirates with a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
OCC's next home match will take place on Friday against Glendale, beginning at 2 p.m.
