Pirates post strong marks at Long Beach Invitational

COMPLETE RESULTS

LONG BEACH -- The Orange Coast College women's track and field team more than held their own against some of the top teams in Southern California at the Long Beach State Invitational this past weekend.

Coast even picked up a pair of wins with Taylor Eddleman taking first in the high jump and McKay Arvidson topping the field in the 3,000 meter run.

Eddleman jumped and cleared 5-feet, 1-inch in fewer attempts than Moorpark's Ashlan Larson to take the top spot for the Pirates. OCC teammate Nicolette Gruber was third overall with a jump of 4-9.

Arvidson took on her toughest competition of the 2022 season and fought off a pair of Mt. San Antonio runners -- Hannah Brown and Claudia Vera -- to cross the finish line first with a winning time of 10 minutes, 38.63 seconds, three seconds ahead of Brown and five ahead of Vera.

OCC's Jacqueline Rodriguez picked up a pair of third-place performances over the weekend, taking third in the 800 (2:33.95) as well as the 1,500 (5:13.33), while Kailey Frye took runner-up in the triple jump with a distance of 34-1/2.

Another runner-up time took place in the women's 4x100 relay, where the OCC foursome of Fryle, Razanne Dawoood, Yasamin Zand and Summer Farage finished second with a time of 50.39, just behind Cerritos (50.08) and just ahead of El Camino (51.41).

Coast will return to action on Wednesday at the OEC Multi-Event Championships, hosted by Golden West College, beginning at 10 a.m. On Friday and Saturday, OCC will head to Cal State Fullerton for the Ben Brown Invitational, beginning at 10 a.m.
