Pirates open season with 5-0 win over Roadrunners
HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College beach volleyball team kicked off its 2022 season with a solid 5-0 nonconference win over Rio Hondo on Friday at the Newland Courts.
All five teams cruised to convincing victories over the visiting Roadrunners.
The No. 1 team of Alanna Shields and Sophie Solo and the No. 2 team of Brisa Zepata-Reaves and Summer Hanks won their respective matches, 21-6, 21-7.
At No. 3, the duo of Sara Enright and Alexandra Salinas won, 21-10, 21-11, while the No. 4 squad of Paige Cutright and Lexy Mendoza flipped their score and won 21-11, 21-10.
At No. 5, Jadyn Pope and Rachel Street rolled to a 21-9, 21-11 victory and in the extra match, Emily Payne and Izzy Duchaine won, 21-13, 21-7.
Coast will travel to Long Beach City College for a pair of matches on Friday. OCC will take on the host Vikings at 12 p.m. before taking on Antelope Valley at 2 p.m.
