Pirates blank Riverside, Golden West, 5-0 each
RIVERSIDE -- The Orange Coast College beach volleyball team made the most of Friday's road trip to Riverside as the Pirates swept past the host Tigers (5-0) and Golden West (5-0) for a pair of Orange Empire Conference wins.
Against the Tigers, Coast picked up wins from the pairs of Rachel Blair/Kingsley Mason (20-22, 21-14, 15-9), Jordan Packer/Lulu Utterback (21-16, 21-19), Ellie Winter/Madison Hopkins (21-8, 21-9), Elodie Danet/Reese Mercado (21-17, 12-21, 15-8) and Sophia Wirtzer/Sarah Campbell (21-15, 21-12).
It was more of the same for the Pirates against the rival Rustlers, with Blair/Mason (21-14, 21-18), Packer/Utterback (21-13, 21-13), Winter/Hopkins (21-13, 21-12), Danet/Mercado (21-16, 21-18) and Wirtzer/Kelsey Gomarko (21-17, 21-14) earning straight-set wins. After seven road matches, the Pirates will be the host on Friday as they take on Fullerton College at the Newland Courts in Huntington Beach, beginning at 11 a.m.
