Pirates earn two OEC wins over Tigers, Rustlers
HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College beach volleyball team picked up a pair of convincing wins on Friday as the Pirates rolled past Riverside, 5-0, and Golden West, 4-1, in an Orange Empire Conference tri-match at the Newland Volleyball Courts.
In the win over Riverside, OCC (9-7 overall, 9-2 in the OEC), cruised with five straight set wins, led by the teams of Rachel Blair/Kingsley Mason (21-11, 21-11), Jordan Packer/Lulu Utterback (21-19, 21-16), Ellie Winter/Madison Hopkins (21-9, 21-6), Sophia Witzer/Elodie Danet (21-12, 21-9) and Hayden Johnston/Sarah Campbell (21-11, 21-14).
Following that win, Coast returned to the sand to take on rival Golden West and again, Coast walked off with a solid win over the Rustlers. OCC wins came from Blair/Mason (23-21, 21-15), Packer/Utterback (21-13, 21-7), Witzer/Danet (21-15, 21-10) and Johnston/Campbell (21-10, 21-7).
The dual wins give the Pirates some breathing room for second place in the OEC with a 9-2 record. Coast will return to the Newland Courts on Friday and host Fullerton College, beginning at 10 a.m.
