Pirates edge out Copper Mountain, 86-83

SAN DIEGO -- It was a successful opening weekend of competition for the Orange Coast College men's basketball team as the Pirates topped Copper Mountain, 86-83, on Saturday afternoon to go 2-1 at the Miramar College Tournament this past weekend.

Cody Aquino came off the bench and led the Pirates with 23 points on 8-of-18 shooting, 4-of-9 on 3-pointers and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. The Pirate freshman also grabbed three rebounds and led the team with three steals.

Jydon Hall and Logen Howard each scored 17 points for OCC, while Ty Barker added 11.

The balanced Coast offensive attack helped eliminate the big-game performance of Copper Mountain's Mikah Blackwell, who led all scorers with 29 points. The rest of the Fighting Cacti went a combined 15 of 43 (34.8%) from the floor.

OCC's "2021 San Diego Tour" continues this coming weekend as the Pirates travel to SD City College for the Knights Invitational, which kicks off on Friday at 3 p.m. against host SDCC.
