Men's Crew heading to England's Henley Regatta!

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's crew is in London, England for a two-week trip to the world famous Henley Royal Regatta, which kicks off on Friday with qualifying races against 55 of the top entries throughout the world.

Coast will compete in the Temple Challenge Cup for University and College Eights on the prestigious Thames River.

"For those who have raced or watched the Henley Royal Regatta -- truly nothing compares to the pomp, presentation, prestige and performance which awaits us," OCC head coach Cam Brown said. "The Temple Challenge Cup will be extremely competitive with the some of the World's Best Collegiate Crews racing upriver on the Thames."

Beginning all the way back in 1839, the Henley Royal Regatta is the biggest annual gathering of the world's top rowers and for the first time since 1996, OCC will be making the trek across the globe to be a part of it all. This is the 11th time in team's history that the Pirates will race in the Henley Royal Regatta (1971, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1979, 1981, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1996). Orange Coast College is the only community college to have ever participated in the 179-year history of the event.

There are 55 entries competing for 32 spots at this year's Temple Challenge Cup. Following Friday's qualifiers, Coast will race in the Reading Regatta on Saturday with the Temple Challenge events taking place on Wednesday, July 4.
