PAZNAN, Poland -- Sam Melvin, a former rower for Orange Coast College's men's crew, helped earn a bronze medal for the United States at the U23 World Championships in July.

Melvin, who competed for Coast in 2016 and 2017, sat in the bow seat of the Men's Lightweight Quadruple sculls (LM4x). The U.S. won their heat on the first day of racing to automatically qualify for the final.

In the finals, the U.S. finished third with a time of 6:12.55, just behind Italy (6:10.13) and Ireland (6:11.45), while Denmark (6:13.78) and France (6:14.65) rounded out the top five.
