Pirates qualify for SoCal Regionals

TEMECULA -- The Orange Coast College men's golf team earned a spot in next week's Southern California Regional Championships after their performance at the 2022 Orange Empire Conference championships on Monday at Temecula Creek Golf Club.

Coast completed the two-day OEC Championships with a team score of 751 (382-369), shaving 13 shots off their team score in the afternoon round to earn a sixth-place team finish.

Saddleback shot the lights out for two days in Temecula to win the event with a team score of 711 (352-359) ... 9-UNDER-par as a group.

Leading the way for OCC was the strong and steady play of Josh Lane, who shot a 3-over-par, 75 in the morning, but finished with an even-par 72 for a two-round total of 147. Only one shot behind was teammate Michael Lin, who started the morning with a 77, but came back strong in the afternoon and carded a 1-under-par, 71 for a two-round total of 148. And, just two shots behind that, was fellow Pirate, Cathan Peterson-Cheek, who shot a 76-74-150 for the championship.

Other top scores for the Pirates included Sky Nam (81-75-156), Devin Keith (73-85-158) and Samuel Carillo (87-77-164).

With some low scores throughout the 2022 season, the Pirates have qualified for next week's Southern California Regionals, which is set for Monday, May 9 at Olivas Links Golf Course in Ventura.
