Pirates finish T-4th at first OEC Neutral matchup

CHINO HILLS -- The first big test for the Orange Coast College men's golf team came on Wednesday at Los Serranos Golf Club's North Course as the Pirates took on both sides of the Orange Empire Conference in a neutral matchup.

Led by an even-par, 72 performance from Pirate Cris Rodriguez, OCC finished tied for fourth in the 10th-school competition. Coast's stalemate partner, Cuyamaca, earned the fourth slot on the sixth-golfer tiebreaker after both teams shot a group score of 383.

The rest of the top 5 teams were Saddleback (360), College of the Desert (366) and Riverside City College (379).

Rodriguez's 72 was one of the lowest scores of the day at Los Serranos among all of the golfers in the field. Other OCC scores included Zach Iwashita (75), Braden Guerrero (75), Samuel Carrillo (79), and Seamus Hunter (82).

Wednesday's matchup was a makeup from an earlier rainout. All 10 teams will be together again for the second neutral matchup on Wednesday at the Los Serranos South Course, beginning at 12 p.m.
