Pirates take third overall in OEC opener

LAWNDALE -- The Orange Coast College men's golf team opened the Orange Empire Conference portion of the 2024 schedule with a solid result against their other four Coastal Division foes, placing third overall at Alondra Golf Club on Wednesday (Par 72).

Seven different golfers in the field shot par or better on Wednesday, showing the talent and depth in this division will be hard to matchup against.

Leading ALL scorers on Wednesday was OCC freshman standout Tiger Tahvildari, who fired a 3-under-par 69. Included in the round was an impressive eagle on the 15th hole, highlighting his afternoon of stellar play.

This year's group of OCC golfers all have the potential to lead the squad on any particular day, as shown by the cluster of quality scores on Wednesday, including Zach Iwashita (75), Nathan Rhee (75), Wyatt Tucker (76), Jordan Fahy (77) and Traver Dale (80).

OCC's team score of 372 was just eight shots off the team leader, Cypress College, who carded a team score of 364. Cuyamaca College placed second with a 366. Saddleback (381) placed fourth, with El Camino (393) close behind in fifth.

All five schools will get back together again on Monday with another OEC matchup at the Navy Golf Course, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
