Pirates take second at OEC matchup at Navy Course

CYPRESS -- The Orange Coast College men's golf team finished eight shots off of the lead and placed second overall at Monday's Orange Empire Conference matchup, hosted by Cypress College at the Navy Golf Course.

Coast finished with a team score of 378, which matched Cuyamaca College, but the Pirates earned the runner-up spot, based on the sixth-golfer tiebreaker. Cypress won the event with a team score of 370, with Saddleback (391) taking fourth) and El Camino (397) placing fifth.

Playing on the course that helped shape the career of one "Tiger" (Tiger Woods), it seems fitting that the leading golfer for the Pirates on Monday was Tiger Tahvildari, who carded an even-par 72. Zach Iwashita and Nathan Rhee finished two shots off of Tahvildari's score with a pair of 74s, while Traver Dale and Jordan Fahy each carded an 79. Wyatt Tucker shot an 80 for Coast, which bettered Cuyamaca's highest score by one shot to give Coast the second-place spot.

Coast returns to action on Monday for the Southern California Regional preview match, located at Bakersfield's Stockdale Country Club, beginning at 10 a.m.
