Gameiro shares MVP honors as five Pirates earn all-conference honors

COSTA MESA -- Led by all-around standout Vitor Gameiro, five Orange Coast College men's soccer players earned a spot on this year's All-Orange Empire Conference team, voted on by the coaches at last week's postseason meeting held at Santiago Canyon College.

Gameiro, a 6-foot-3 freshman midfielder from Brazil, was named the OEC's Co-Most Valuable Player for 2017, sharing the honors with Santa Ana College's Matheus Cuhna. Gameiro finished the season with a conference-best 34 points (12 goals, 10 assists) and his 12 goals overall were second in conference to fellow Pirate, Nick Cardenas, who had 13.

Cardenas (34 points, 13 goals, eight assists), along with Coast sophomore defender Parker Roberson, earned first-team honors for the Pirates. Roberson helped anchor a Pirate defense which 35 goals in 21 matches played this season (1.67 goals-per-match average).

Fellow defender, sophomore Brett Haney and freshman forward Achref Beldi earned second-team honors for the Pirates. For Haney, this was his second straight, all-conference honor during his two-year Coast Career. For Beldi, he finished with nine goals and seven assists, fifth-best among all Orange Empire Conference players. His 22 conference points were fourth-best among all competitors.
