Pirates split meet with Rustlers, Dons

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's swim team hosted Golden West and Santa Ana colleges in an Orange Empire Conference tri-meet on Friday, with the Pirates topping the Dons 158-31 and falling to the Rustlers, 142-61.

OCC's top event of the day came in the 200-yard freestyle, where Sean Richards led throughout the race. After a .1 lead after 150 yards, Richards turned on the jets and touched the wall first with a winning time of 1 minute, 46.67 seconds, edging out GWC's David Jorth (1:47.18).

Richards also performed well in the 100 freestyle and finished second overall with a time of 48.33, behind only GWC's Ari Marks (47.81).

Another second-place performance for Coast came in the 200 breaststroke, where Joe Gard clocked in with a time of 2:24.28, less than three seconds behind winner Josh Morgan of Golden West (2:21.09).

OCC's 400 free relay (3:15.11) and 400 medley relay (3:38.78) also took runner-up to the Rustlers, as did Tyler Jankovich in the 200 butterfly (2:08.06).

In the 1-meter diving event, OCC took the top three spots, led by Brandon Thomas (300.0), Alex Pasillas (200.0) and Stephen Nissen (100.0).

The Pirates will return to action on Friday and Saturday at the Pasadena City College Invitational.
