Coast men take third at PCC Invitational

PASADENA -- The Orange Coast College men's swim team took third place over all at the 14th Pasadena Invitational Swim Meet held April 4-5 at PCC's Aquatic Center.

The Pirates finished with 532 points, behind only Mt. San Antonio (934.5) and Diablo Valley (790) in the 17-team meet. Ventura finished fourth with 235 points, while Chaffey (230) finished fifth.

Coast started strong by winning the 200-yard freestyle relay. The foursome of Sean Richards, Collin Latham, Travis Hone and Kasey Foley led throughout the race and finished nearly two seconds ahead with a winning time of 1 minute, 24.98.

Coast also finished strong, winning the final race of the event -- the 400 free relay as Latham, Foley, Tim Polman and Spencer McCullogh touched the wall first with a time of 3:10.47.

Foley paced the Pirates' individual performances by winning the 100 free with a time of 47.06 in a race where the first seven times all were within one second of each other. Richards (4th, 47.74), Latham (5th, 47.78) and Polman (6th, 47.86) helped contribute to the OCC point totals.

Foley also placed second in the 50 free (21.38), while Latham picked up a pair of third-place times in both the 50 free (21.47) and the 100 backstroke (56.56).

Another top-three time came from OCC's 200 medley relay team of Latham, Richards, Polman and Garrett Glore, who clocked in with a time of 1:40.2.

The Pirates will now prepare for the 2014 Orange Empire Conference championships, held at Riverside City College on April 18-19. Both dates will begin at 9:30 p.m.
