SAN MATEO -- Orange Coast College runner Eamon Smythe earned All-American honors after his performance in the 800 meters at last weekend's California Community College Athletic Association State Track and Field Championships, held at the College of San Mateo.

Eamon battled a star-studded field and down the stretch, it became a four-man race. In the end, Smythe finished third with a time of 1-minute, 52.96 seconds, edged out by Mt. San Antonio's Gabe Toscano (1:52.75) and Diablo Valley's Antwuin Prowes (1:52.76). American River College's David French settled for fourth with a time of 1:52.99.

In the 110 high hurdles, Justin Gibbons capped off a solid season by finishing sixth with a time of 14.67, less than four-tenths off of the championship time of 14.28, set by Mackenzi Rickman of Cerritos College.

Sophomore distance specialist Lucio Ramirez qualified for state in both the 5,000 and 10,000 for the Pirates and he placed eighth in the 10K (32:24.19) and 10th in the 5K (15:23.7).

In the pole vault, a pair of Pirates -- Kyle Victoria and Jason McKinnon -- each cracked the top 10, with Victoria taking ninth with a mark of 14-feet, 8-3/4 inches), while McKinnon placed 10th with a mark of 14-3 3/4.
