Loth, Mejorada shine at CCCAA State Meet

MODESTO -- A pair of Orange Coast College men's track standouts -- Joshua Mejorada and Cayden Loth -- made the most of their opportunities at the California Community College Athletic Association State Meet this past weekend at Modesto Junior College.

Loth earned a trip up north after qualifying for the decathlon and the freshman from Willowbrook (IL) High School came through with a fifth-place score of 6,058 points against the best multi-event athletes in the state. 

Of the 10 events in the decathlon, Loth earned five top-five marks, including a first-place performance in the shot put, where he topped them all with a throw of 41-feet, 7-3/4-inches. Loth also earned a third-place throw of 146-10 in the javelin and fifth-place marks in the discus throw (108-1), 110-meter high hurdles (16.38 seconds) and 400 meters (52.19). 

Jeramiah Havens from San Diego Mesa College won the decathlon with 6,939 points, followed by Modesto's Aaron Wood (6,899) and Santa Barbara's Ryan Gregory (6.457).

As for Mejorada, the Pirate sophomore earned a trip to the State Meet after a strong performance in the javelin throw at the SoCal Regionals and this past weekend, he earned a sixth-place finish with a throw of 173-5. After getting his first throw in at 164-2, Mejorada aired it out and notched his best throw of the meet on his second attempt. Hartnell's Zachary Sims won the state title with a throw of 200-10, with Mt. San Antonio's Matthew Mannino close behind at 199-2.
