Pirates rally to topple Vikings

LONG BEACH -- The Orange Coast College men's water polo team posted an impressive 13-8 comeback win over host Long Beach City College at the LBCC Mini-Tournament on Saturday.

Coast (11-10) fell behind early as the Vikings (13-7) jumped out to a 6-2 advantage through the opening eight minutes of play.

But the Pirate defense clamped down over the next two quarters and Coast outscored the Vikings, 9-1 over that span to grab hold of the lead for good.

Dane Howell came through with five goals to spark the OCC offense, while Ethan Pranajaya and Kendrick Griffith each added two goals. Jackson Bryson, Ryan O'Donovan, Nathan Jones and Matthew Grudichak each added solo goals for the Pirates.

In goal, Benjaman Matz came up big for Coast with nine saves, holding the Vikings to just two goals over the final three quarters of action.

The Pirates will return to action on Wednesday at home against, Fullerton College, beginning at 4 p.m.
