Pirates finish second at OEC Meet

ORANGE -- The Orange Coast College men's cross country team finished second at Friday's Orange Empire Conference Meet at Irvine Park.

In a three-team showdown that featured dominant performances from eventual-champion Riverside (26 points) and Saddleback (54 points), the Pirates took the runner-up spot with a team score of 40 points. Fullerton (122 points), Golden West (158) and Santiago Canyon (166) rounded out the team scores.

Just how lopsided was Friday's race for the Tigers, Pirates and Gauchos? Out of the first 30 runners to cross the finish line, 27 of them were from the top three schools.

For the Pirates, it was a 6-7-8-9-10 finish with Austin Little leading the way. The sophomore standout finished the four-mile course with a time of 21 minutes, 40.08 seconds. with teammates Luis Morales (7th, 21:42.84), Barron Maizland (8th, 21.46.16), Jace Hinesly (9th, 21:51.73) and Jay Bonthius (10th, 21:54.41) close behind.

Riverside, led by OEC champion John Guzman (20:50.43) used a 1-3-4-5-13 finish to claim the team title. Saddleback's Kyler Fish (20:59.1) took second.

Other top times for the Pirates included Weston Hall (22:12.36), Felix Cruz (22:14.77), Kevin Russell (22:21.85), Cutberto Vazquez (22:33.89), Jacob Manning (23:18.5), Bryce Schoppert (23:43.23), Guillermo Hernandez (23:50.27), Adan Martinez (23:59.95), Ian Sheidenberger (24:05.32), Juan Fuentes (24:11.74), Edwin Martinez (24:22.09), Mathew Sommer (24:40.03), Alex Medina (24:48.23), Hugo Flores (25:00.71), Ramin Attai (25:01.96) and Michael Guzman (25:08.94).

Orange Coast will be the host school at next week's Southern California Regional Meet, which begins on Friday at 9 a.m. at Fairview Park.
