Pirates finish fifth at SoCal Regionals; SB Valley wins title
COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's cross country team finished fifth overall at the 2012 Southern California Regional Meet, held at Fairview Park.
The Pirates finished with a team score of 111 points. San Bernardino Valley edged out Cerritos to win the regional title with 95 points, two ahead of the Falcons' 97 points. Riverside College finished third with 106 points, while L.A. Trade Tech (109) placed fourth.
OCC's top time went to Austin Little, who finished the four-mile course in 16th place with a time of 20 minutes, 38.49 seconds. Teammate Jace Hinesly was close behind with a 17th-place time of 20:40.85. Other point-producing times for the Pirates included Luis Morales (21st, 20:49.36), Jay Bonthius (22nd), 20:49.36) and Barron Maizland (35th, 21:03.28).
L.A. Trade Tech's Omar Cortes earned the 2012 individual title with a winning time of 19:48.44. Munir Kahssay of Cerritos College finished second at 19:55.66, while Riverside's John Guzman (20:00.69) took third.
The top 18 teams qualified for the upcoming California Community College Athletic Association State Meet, held at Woodward Park in Fresno, on Saturday, Nov. 17.
