Pirates take fourth overall at Brubaker Invitational

ORANGE -- The Orange Coast College men's cross country team posted a solid fourth-place team finish at last weekend's Brubaker Invitational at Irvine Park.

With the help of three top-15 performances, the Pirates finished with a team score of 92, topped only by San Bernardino Valley (35), Santa Ana (71) and Saddleback (89). Other team scores include Cerritos (147), Santiago Canyon (161), El Camino (163), Fullerton (200), Long Beach (201), Palomar (277) and Golden West (327).

The future of OCC running is looking brighter than ever as a trio of freshman led the way on Friday. Galyn Nash was Coast's top runner, finishing fifth overall with a time of 21 minutes, 35.1 seconds. Adolfo Cruz took 12th overall with a time of 22:30.2, while teammate Danny Dominguez was close behind with a 13th-place time of 22:31.5.

Fellow freshman Oscar Salas placed 23rd with a time of 23:03, while sophomore Eamon Smythe placed 41st at 23:35.8 to round out the point-scorers for the Pirates.

Other top OCC times were turned in by Alex Perez (24:00.3), Joseph Martinez (24:47.6), Ken Nakama (25:31.5), Daniel Vargas (26:10.6), Neil Mandelkern (26:51.8) and Samuel Russakov (28:45).

The Pirates will head up to Santa Clara University to participate in the Santa Clara Invitational on Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m.
