Pirate men finish fourth at OEC Championships

IRVINE -- With five runners in the top-25, the Orange Coast College men's cross country team finished fourth overall at the 2015 Orange Empire Conference Meet on Friday at Mason Park.

Coast finished with a team score of 81 points, topped only by eventual-champion Riverside (35), runner-up Saddleback (65) and third-place Santa Ana (73).

With the fourth-place spot in the standings, Coast qualifies for next week's Southern California Regional Meet, set for Friday at 10 a.m. at San Diego's Mission Bay Park.

Freshman Galyn Nash was OCC's top runner, cruising through the four-mile course with a seventh-place time of 21 minutes, 13.81 seconds. Freshman teammate Danny Dominguez also earned All-Orange Empire Conference honors with a top-14 finish, taking 12th with a time of 21:36.88.

Other point-producing times for the Pirates were turned in by Eamon Smythe (21:47.21), Oscar Salas (21:56.71), Joseph Martinez (21:59.56). Other top times were earned by Alex Perez (22:28.71) and Jose Armendariz (23:07.31).

Saddleback's Ulysses Orozco won the OEC individual title with a time of 20:34.56.
