Pirate men place third overall at Titan Invitational

FULLERTON -- The Orange Coast College men's cross country finished third overall at the Cal State Fullerton Titan Invitational on Friday in this year's final tune-up race before the postseason races commence.

In a 173-runner field of competitors from both two- and four-year programs, the Pirates placed five runners in the top-50 and finished with a team score of 128 points. 

Leading the way for the Pirates was Brian Soriano-Guzman, who finished sixth overall with a time of 24 minutes, 50.3 seconds, the fastest time among the two-year schools. Next to come in for the Pirates was Yuki Watanabe, who conquered the 8,000-meter course with a time of 26:00.2 for 24th place, with teammate Tyler Savely close behind in 28th with a time of 26:21.9.

Rounding out the point-producers for the Pirates were Pedro Antunez, who finished 40th with a time of 26:47.6 and Joseph Pena, who crossed the finish line 53rd overall with a time of 27:13.8.

Other top times for OCC included Justin Dominguez (27:15.7), Adam Angel (27:34.2), Jacob Skytte (29:18.5), Gavin McNeill (30:24.5) and Kevin Carrera (31:09).

Now the fun really begins for the Pirates, who will compete in the Orange Empire Conference Championships, which begin on Friday at Irvine Park in Orange, beginning at 10 a.m.
