Pirates earn split in three-way match with Long Beach, Mira Costa

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College women's sand volleyball team picked up a 5-0 nonconference win over Long Beach City College and suffered a 4-1 nonconference loss to Mira Costa on Friday at the Newland Avenue volleyball courts.

In the win over the Vikings, Coast (6-1 overall) picked up straight-set wins by Danielle Boyette and Sierra Brown (21-5, 21-8), Shayna Johnson and Alexa Herrera (21-12, 21-15) and Lehua Alama-Jordan and Danyelle Brown (21-6, 21-5). Coast also picked up two more wins by default against a shorthanded LBCC squad.

Alama-Jordan and D. Brown picked up OCC's lone win against Mira Costa with a 21-13, 21-11 victory. Kasse-Ann Dela Cruz and Alyssa Assayag split a pair of 21-15 decisions before falling 20-18 in the third set in another hard-fought matchup for the Pirates.

Coast will return to action on Friday, April 10 at Irvine Valley, beginning at 12 p.m.
