Pirates bounce back with strong win over Tigers

RIVERSIDE -- After a rough 12-11 loss on Tuesday against Fullerton College, the Orange Coast College softball team bounced back with a solid 11-6 road win against Riverside City College on Wednesday in an Orange Empire Conference matchup.

The top of the OCC lineup -- Ariana Williams, Emilie Lapena, Isabel McElroy and Leila Chavez -- did the most damage for the Pirates (8-15, 5-7 in the OEC) against the Tigers (13-16, 4-7). Williams went 4-for-5 with a home run, four runs and three RBI, McElroy went 4-for-4 with two runs, Lapena added two hits and two runs scored and Chavez went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Combined that foursome contributed 10 of OCC's 15 hits, eight of OCC's 11 runs and five of OCC's nine RBIs. 

Taylor Andolsek added a home run, two runs scored and an RBI for the Pirates, while Nadia Perez had a double and two runs scored.

Ashlee Kean (3-3) picked up the win in relief for the Pirates, allowing just one earned run over three innings with a walk and three strikeouts. 

Coast jumped out to a 5-0 lead through two innings and after RCC got to within three at 5-2, the Pirates kept adding on with two runs in the fourth, two in the sixth and two more in the seventh. 

The Pirates will return to the OCC Softball Complex on Friday against Cypress College, beginning at 3 p.m.
