Host Pirates finish second at OEC matchup

COSTA MESA -- At the friendly confines of the Costa Mesa Country Club, the Orange Coast College women's golf team felt right at home, picking up a second-place team score of 339 on Monday against the rest of the Orange Empire Conference field.

Saddleback took first in the event with a team score of 318 with College of the Desert taking third with 353, followed by Cuyamaca (372), Mt. San Antonio (393), Mt. San Jacinto (414) and Fullerton (425).

Freshman standout Meah Collins led all golfers on the Mesa Linda Course, shoot a 2-over-par, 72. The OCC freshman was five shots ahead of individual runner-up Mary Damian of Cuyamaca, who carded a 77. 

Emma Ashcraft performed well and carded an 87 for the vastly-improved Pirate squad, while teammate April Garcia was close behind with an 89, followed by Katherine Crinella (91), Michelle Manzo (93) and Alexandria Jaeger (107).

Coast will return to the links on Wednesday against the OEC field at Menifee Lakes, beginning at 11 a.m.
