Pirate ladies punch ticket to State!

BAKERSFIELD -- For the first time in recent memory, the Orange Coast College women's golf team has qualified for a state team championship as the Pirates finished second overall at the 2021 Southern California Regional Championships on Sunday and Monday at Sundale Golf Club.

The Pirate six pack of Meah Collins, Stephanie Tran, Katherine Crinella, Emma Ashcraft, April Garcia and Michelle Manzo took on the best community college golfers throughout Southern California and finished with a runner-up team score of 657, trailing only Saddleback College (625) and well ahead of third-place College of the Desert (723).

Meah Collins led the OCC squad and shot a two-round total of 155. After carding an 80 in Round 1 on Sunday, the Pirate freshman went to work and shot a 3-over-par 75 on Monday. her 155 was the sixth-lowest among all golfers in the field.

Close behind Collins was Coast teammate Tran, who shot a 157 (77-80), while Crinella (82-85) carded a 167.

Joining that Pirate trio for the state finals will be teammates Ashcraft (82-85-167), Garcia (92-91-183) and Manzo (91-110-201) as this talented squad attempts to win the first women's golf state championship in school history. 

The California Community College Athletic Association Women's Golf State Championships will be held this coming Sunday and Monday at Cypress Ridge Golf Club, located in Arroyo Grande. Opening round matches will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, with Day 2 matches kicking off at 10 a.m.
