Pirates break Bobcats' scoreless streak, but fall, 3-1

COSTA MESA -- After a rough first half, the Orange Coast College women's soccer team hung tough against powerhouse Saddleback College, but in the end, the Bobcats prevailed, 3-1, on Tuesday night, inside LeBard Stadium.

The undefeated Bobcats (13-0-2, 7-0-2 in the Orange Empire Conference) entered Tuesday night's match with the Pirates (5-8-1, 0-6-0) with zero goals allowed through their first 14 matches. that streak was stopped in the 64th minute of Tuesday's contest when OCC's McKenzie Keasbury sent in a corner kick into a pile of players in front of the Saddleback goal and teammate Samantha Valdez picked up the loose change and buried the rebound into the back of the net, stopping the Bobcats' streak of 1,324 minutes of goal-free soccer allowed.

Unfortunately for the Pirates, a tough first half put the hosts in a 3-0 hole as the Bobcats scored in the first 30 seconds of the half and the last 30 seconds of the half, with a goal in the middle as well.

OCC goalkeeper Jessica Gardner kept the Pirates close with 10 saves, including several point-blank attempts in the first half.

Coast made some adjustments in the second half and managed to keep the Bobcats off the scoreboard for the entire second half.

It's been a rough seven days of soccer for the Pirates, who have played Saddleback (13-0-2) twice, Santiago Canyon (14-0-1) and will play Cypress (10-1-2) on Wednesday at home, beginning at 3 p.m. at the OCC Soccer Complex.
