Pirates rout Dons, 7-1

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's soccer team ended the 2021 season on a strong note, rolling past visiting Santa Ana College, 7-1, on Friday in an Orange Empire Conference matchup inside the OCC Soccer Complex.

Eden Makaafi led the Pirates (9-10-3, 4-8-2 in the OEC) with four goals, while Kylee Brandau added two goals and Kiana Carlos added a solo tally. Felicia Hyde helped create a big portion of the OCC offense with three assists.

The fun for the Pirates began in the 17th minute when Hyde sent a corner kick that deflected off of Brandau, then off a SAC player and into the back of the net, putting Coast up, 1-0.

Santa Ana (4-10-5, 2-8-4) tied things up in the 40th minute when a long free kick from Wendy Millian found the back of the net, but after that, it was ALL Pirates the rest of the way.

Right before halftime Carlos ripped a well-placed shot into the upper-right corner of the net to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead just before the first-half whistle blew from the referee.

The second half was dominated by OCC, courtesy of Makaafi's four goals over the final 45 minutes of play, including two in less than one minute.

Jessica Gardner had one save in 45 minutes of play for the Pirates, before Brittany Hazelton (two saves) wrapped things up with a scoreless second half in goal.
