Pirates score early, often in 8-1 rout over Dons

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's soccer team bounced back from a disappointing performance on Wednesday with a dominating effort, cruising to an 8-1 win over visiting Santa Ana College on Friday in an Orange Empire Conference matchup.

Coast (9-2-1, 2-2-0 in OEC) had six first-half goals and the Pirates never looked back as the Dons were on the ropes right from the opening whistle.

Cina Wilson came off the bench early for the Pirates and began shooting as soon as she touched the field, finishing the afternoon with three goals. Sydney Powell added two goals and an assist, while Lily Carroll contributed a goal and two assists. Brianna Calderon and Leah Martinovich had a goal and an assist each, while goalkeeper Jessica Gardner had six saves to preserve the win.

Santa Ana's lone goal came off of a penalty-kick opportunity as Diana Hernandez ripped a PK that was initially saved by Gardner, but the Dons' forward followed up her shot and deflected in the loose ball into the net.

Coast will return to action on Tuesday at Fullerton College, beginning at 3 p.m. OCC will return home on Friday to face Cypress, also at 3 p.m.
